Empowering New Mexico’s Communities Through Real-Time Water Knowledge. This dynamic hub provides access to timely, transparent, and actionable water information across the state—supporting resilience in our arid climate.
Established in 1963, the New Mexico Water Resources Research Institute (NM WRRI) studies the interconnected issues surrounding water management in New Mexico's arid climate. NM WRRI works with local communities, landowners, and individuals to provide critical information on managing New Mexico’s natural water resources.
The institute also funds student and faculty research to address water problems critical to New Mexico and the Southwest, and participates in joint efforts to solve water-related challenges along the U.S./Mexico border.
The Strategic Community Water Management Program (SCWMP) builds on the technical understanding developed by the Community Hydrology Program to deliver up-to-the-minute water information for better management. SCWMP supports communities, water users, and managers through watershed restoration and monitoring to mitigate flooding and improve aquifer recharge.
